London-based energy management startup Boldr has raised €4.2 million ($5 million) in a pre-Series A round to expand its smart climate technology across North America. The capital will also fund the development of its contractor software platform and a move into broader residential and commercial heating and cooling systems.

The investment round was led by Unconventional Ventures. Other participants included Ada Ventures, Tetrad Ventures, Davidovs Venture Collective, Roxbury Asset Management, the Inclimo Climate Tech Fund, Prosegur, Techstars, the S20 Fund, and PropelX. This funding follows an oversubscribed €2.7 million ($3.2 million) Seed round that took place in 2025.

Madi Ablyazov, the CEO and co-founder of Boldr, stated that the next power plant will consist of millions of homes working together rather than a single building. He noted that this goal cannot be achieved through a consumer app alone but requires contractors who install, service, and replace energy-controlling equipment. The company aims to provide these professionals with the technology necessary to make such a future possible.

Founded in 2022 by Madi Ablyazov, Toma Paro, and Matheus Marotzke, Boldr builds a platform to connect equipment inside buildings. While the initial focus is on HVAC systems, the long-term ambition involves connecting heating and cooling systems, batteries, EV chargers, and solar installations into a network capable of adjusting demand based on grid requirements.

Instead of selling technology directly to homeowners, Boldr partners with existing HVAC contractors. The startup views these networks as the primary route for deploying connected energy technology at scale while providing contractors with tools to manage installed systems.

Alexis Horowitz-Burdick, a Partner at Unconventional Ventures, said that Boldr is addressing the infrastructure challenge of adding flexible capacity to the grid quickly and affordably. She added that the team identified HVAC contractors as critical partners in home electrification. \One key product from the company is the Universal Thermostat, a hardware-agnostic climate control system designed to simplify installations. It uses a wireless architecture where a control module communicates with an equipment-side subbase, eliminating the need for new physical wiring. According to Boldr, this can save businesses as much as €428 ($500) in labor costs per installation.

Each unit sends real-time telemetry to the Boldr cloud platform. This allows contractors to access remote information about equipment performance and potentially diagnose problems without an immediate site visit. The company is also developing a SaaS platform to help contractors manage servicing, maintenance, and customer relationships. By connecting these devices, equipment can reduce or shift consumption during high demand periods, providing grid operators with flexibility without relying solely on centralised power generation.
