Comparables.ai has raised $6 million in seed funding. The Helsinki-based startup's AI-powered M&A intelligence platform aims to dismantle information gaps for dealmakers globally.

The funding round was led by Pragmatech Venture Capital and Araya Ventures. Other investors include Purple Ventures, Gorilla Capital, hi5 Ventures, and Somersault Ventures.

Platform tackles M&A’s visibility gap with global company data

The startup's platform aggregates data on more than 370 million active companies. It offers financials, ownership structures, valuations, M&A transactions, and verified contacts.

More than 50,000 professionals across over 30 countries use the service. Its users include corporate development teams, private equity firms, M&A advisors, and investment banks.

Solving information asymmetry in mid-market dealmaking

M&A has traditionally been dominated by closed networks and incomplete information. Experienced buyers and advisors often operate with partial visibility. This information asymmetry defines mid-market dealmaking.

Comparables.ai enables corporate development teams to map relevant targets in any market niche before internal strategy meetings. Private equity firms can screen add-on candidates across a dozen markets at once using the platform. M&A advisors can build complete buyer lists without relying solely on existing relationships.

Users describe a market they are looking for. The platform then returns companies, financials, ownership structures, and decision makers. Deal teams are taking more early market discovery into their own hands. This reduces the time and cost of identifying opportunities before engaging external advisors.

Teams with capital but not bandwidth can now run a more structured and global search from day one. Co-founder Martin Kangasniemi said: "Mid-market M&A has always been a visibility problem. If you cannot see the whole field, you cannot run the best process."

Funding fuels AI development and multi-market expansion

The new capital will support the advancement of Comparables.ai's AI engine. It will also enable expansion into new markets. This move responds to rising enterprise demand for cross-regional deployment.

Founding team combines M&A expertise with AI research

Comparables.ai was founded by four operators and researchers. Co-founders Niko Nalli, Markus Vesala, and Martin Kangasniemi have hands-on experience in M&A advisory and financial markets.

Co-founder and CTO Muhammad Ammad-ud-din has a Ph.D. from Aalto University’s Department of Computer Science. He conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Helsinki, specialising in machine-learning methods for integrating multiple data sources into recommender systems.

Ammad-ud-din has published peer-reviewed work in Nature Biotechnology. He also earned recognition in the NCI-DREAM Drug Sensitivity Prediction Challenge.

The funding will support multi-market expansion and further development of the AI engine.
