Stasher has secured £3 million in new funding to expand its smart luggage storage network. The London-based travel tech company's funding includes approximately £2 million in growth financing from lender Gilion and a £1 million strategic investment from smart locker operator Hive Box.
The venture debt from Gilion will provide additional capital for Stasher to invest in growth. This includes adding more locations to its marketplace and increasing marketing activity. The strategic partnership with Hive Box integrates the locker manufacturer's hardware and IoT platform with Stasher's booking system.
Smart locker deployment accelerates with Premier Inn
Stasher's smart locker rollout is gaining momentum with major hotel groups. Premier Inn has installed the lockers at 17 hotels across London, Edinburgh, and Manchester. An initial pilot occurred at Premier Inn London St Pancras in November 2025.
As part of the Hive Box partnership, Stasher is set to receive an initial 100 smart lockers for deployment by mid-2027. The company plans to target accommodation providers, transport hubs, and visitor attractions. Stasher already operates Hive Box lockers with StayKula in Kensington and Birmingham and alongside Zedwell Trocadero at Piccadilly Circus. It also works with Staycity Aparthotels in Dublin, Edinburgh, Liverpool, and Manchester using earlier locker models.
Property managers hosting the lockers can reserve them for their own guests or make spare capacity available to Stasher's wider customer base. Stasher manages the smart locker operation and monitoring remotely. The lockers allow guests to store and collect bags using a QR code, with secure compartments available around the clock.
Strong early performance shows rising demand
Bookings through Stasher's smart locker network are rising by 108 percent month-on-month. The highest-performing location is generating £2,500 per week in locker revenue. Every booking made through the platform is covered by a £10,000 guarantee.
Stasher operates a platform that allows travellers to book short-term luggage storage, historically connecting them with hotels and local businesses offering spare space. The company's network spans over 1,200 cities worldwide. The new smart locker rollout adds dedicated, self-service storage to this existing marketplace.
Fredrik Johansson of Gilion said: "Stasher is a clear leader in its market, growing fast while keeping customer acquisition costs low in a very attractive segment."
Data-driven expansion across high-footfall locations
Stasher will use more than a decade of booking and search data from its platform to determine new locker deployment locations. The company plans to target spots where existing luggage storage sites are reaching capacity and where demand continues outside staffed opening hours.
The company sees significant potential for smart lockers across rail and coach stations, airports, ferry terminals, museums, and arenas. Hive Box, its manufacturing and technology partner, operates a vast network of over 400,000 lockers as of July 2026.
| Hive Box Network Metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| Smart lockers in network | Over 400,000 |
| Compounds covered | 236,000 |
| Consumers served | 481 million |
| Average daily parcels handled | More than 22 million |
Stasher co-founder Jacob Wedderburn-Day leads the company. The service originally addressed storage gaps for Airbnb guests before check-in and after checkout. It is particularly useful for dispersed property portfolios without receptions or on-site staff.
Stasher will use its capital to accelerate the deployment of smart luggage lockers. The company will use its wider network and search data to identify where travellers are already looking for storage and where existing provision is limited.
