Medly AI Secures $8M in Seed Funding to Expand AI-Powered Tutoring Platform
Medly AI, a UK-based edtech startup, has raised $8 million in seed funding to expand its AI-powered exam preparation platform in the UK and international markets.

Medly AI, a UK-based edtech startup, has raised $8 million in seed funding to expand its AI-powered exam preparation platform in the UK and international markets. The funding round was led by Felix Capital, with participation from existing investors Eka Ventures and Ada Ventures, as well as several angel investors.
## Expansion Plans The company plans to use the seed funding to grow its student community in the UK, support its international expansion, develop additional AI capabilities, and expand its research into the platform's impact on academic outcomes. Medly has already begun expanding internationally, recently launching SAT preparation in the US, with plans to add AP and ACT support by the end of the year.
Medly's AI tutor uses a proprietary combination of seven large language models alongside approaches drawn from neuroscience and teaching theory. The system tracks students' progress and learning patterns to adapt its feedback and support to individual users. Students can use the platform to answer practice questions and receive immediate feedback on their responses, including guidance on where additional marks could be gained.
## Personalized Academic Support Medly's co-founder and CEO, Dr Paul Jung, said the company aims to make personalized academic support more widely accessible by providing students with tutoring that adapts to how they learn. He noted that almost a third of 11-16-year-olds receive some form of private tutoring, which can be a powerful advantage for those who can afford it, but also reinforces the status quo for those who cannot.
## Features and Impact Medly's platform includes features such as handwriting recognition, allowing students to complete work directly on the platform using a tablet or stylus, particularly for subjects such as mathematics and chemistry. The company claims that students who used the platform for GCSE preparation saw improvements in their results and is conducting a trial with more than 1,000 students to assess its impact on attainment. The platform has already reached more than 400,000 UK users, with students using it for around an hour a day on average.
The seed funding will enable Medly to further develop its platform and expand its reach, providing more students with access to personalized academic support. With its proprietary AI technology and commitment to making high-quality education more accessible, Medly is well-positioned to make a significant impact in the edtech industry.
