AI company F13 has emerged from stealth with $5 million in pre-seed funding. The round was led by Credo Ventures and Point Nine Capital, with angel investors including Baobab Ventures' Carles Reina and mainframe's Jack Richardson also participating.
Founded by Gregory Janik and Ingimar Tomasson, F13 is building foundation models designed to create precise and controllable vector graphics. The startup targets professional applications where visuals must follow specific data, proportions, layouts, or design requirements.
The problem with current AI
F13 says existing image-generation models can produce creative imagery but often fail on technical accuracy. Charts may not represent data correctly. Scientific diagrams can have wrong proportions. Creative assets might not follow a specific design system. The company's models are designed to address these limitations while cutting the time needed to produce visuals.
Gregory Janik, co-founder and CEO of F13, explained the company's focus. "We didn't want to build another model that's impressively expressive and quietly wrong," Janik said. "We create visuals that are not only beautiful to look at, but are true to the brief."
The vector graphics advantage
The technology generates vector graphics. This format is widely used in design and engineering because it can scale across different sizes and resolutions without losing quality. A key benefit is that outputs remain editable after generation. Users can modify and iterate on designs instead of generating them again from scratch.
F13's technology helps its AI models understand and interact with two-dimensional space. This allows for greater control over the final output.
Initial professional use cases
The company has identified several initial applications for its technology. These are areas where precision and adherence to specifications are critical.
Launch and next steps
F13 has launched in early access. It is making its model available through a developer API and a web-based platform where teams can generate, edit, manage, and share their work. A public launch is planned for later this year.
The $5 million in pre-seed funding will be used to bring the first model to market. Resources will also expand the company's compute, talent, and data capabilities. F13 plans to explore additional applications for its technology and develop new models for more complex design tasks.
