The Global Deep Tech Shows Awards has selected 40 finalists, comprising startups and research spin-offs, to compete across eight categories. The event, hosted by NORDEEP on September 16-17 in Espoo, Finland, focuses on businesses emerging from scientific research and advanced engineering.

According to the organisers, the awards are designed to highlight the commercialisation of deep technology. They judge companies based on the strength of their underlying technology, their market potential, and their plans for scaling internationally.

The Competition Categories

The shortlist is divided into six technology-focused categories and two Research-to-Business (R2B) groups. The technology categories aim to cover the breadth of the deep tech sector, from quantum computing to engineered biology.

The two R2B categories specifically highlight projects transitioning from academic research toward commercialisation and scale. This stage often forces founders to decide on their market focus, a critical juncture in the entrepreneurial journey.

The Shortlisted Companies

The finalists span a wide array of technological fields. The source provided the following breakdown of companies by category.

The Path to Commercialisation

The awards criteria emphasise solving a meaningful problem with defensible technology and establishing a credible route to market adoption. For many of these research-driven ventures, the primary activity is validating their core scientific idea for commercial viability.

Organisers state the event is intended to connect these promising deep-tech companies with investors, industry partners, and potential customers. This networking is key for startups typically in pre-seed stages or relying on grants as they decide whether to commit full-time.

Category winners will be announced during the two-day event in Finland, covering the full spectrum of technologies represented by the finalists.
