IPremom raises €15M for pregnancy

IPremom, a Valencia-based molecular diagnostics company, has raised €15 million in a Seed funding round. The investment, led by Amadeus Capital Partners with participation from Asabys Partners and APEX Ventures, will support the clinical validation and commercial rollout of its early pregnancy complication detection platform.

Professor Carlos Simón, co-founder and Chairman of iPremom, stated the company's ambition. "Our ambition is to build more than a better preeclampsia test, it is to give every pregnant woman a comprehensive, early molecular picture of her pregnancy," he said. The firm aims to address what it sees as generations of under-diagnosis by detecting problems much earlier.

The MaiRa Platform and Its Science

The company's MaiRa platform analyses cell-free RNA (cfRNA) signals from a single maternal blood sample taken between 9 and 14 weeks of pregnancy. This analysis, powered by AI-based predictive models, assesses the risk for complications like preeclampsia months before clinical symptoms appear. The science is based on detecting molecular signals linked to issues such as decidualisation resistance, where the uterine lining does not develop properly.

The platform's development leveraged a substantial real-world dataset. It was built using over 26,000 samples linked to 10,000 pregnancies from the PREMOM study, one of Spain's largest prospective clinical trials. This data continues to help the company identify molecular signals for a broader set of complications to add to MaiRa's capabilities.

The Market and Investment Context

IPremom's funding arrives during active investment in European molecular diagnostics and women's health in 2026. Selected adjacent financings in the sector this year total approximately €35.8 million. The following table shows a breakdown of these comparable investments:

CompanyFocusAmount Raised
En Carta DiagnosticsAt-home molecular testing€5 million
Intu DiagnosticsHPV testing in women's health€1.1 million
KOVE MedicalReducing preterm-birth risks post-surgery€1.7 million
DITTOMenstrual health€5.2 million
Moonlight AIAI-led diagnostics€2.8 million
LucisPreventive-health platform€17.1 million

Pierre Socha, a Partner at lead investor Amadeus Capital Partners, highlighted the market potential. "iPremom is poised to do the same for prenatal care, an even larger market opportunity," he said, referencing a prior successful partnership with Professor Simón on Igenomix.

The Scale of the Problem

Company-provided data highlights the global challenge. Pregnancy complications claim 260,000 maternal lives, nearly two million late-term stillbirths, and 2.3 million neonatal deaths each year. Preeclampsia alone affects 5 to 8% of all pregnancies globally, with pre-term birth, foetal growth restriction, and gestational diabetes adding further strain. IPremom argues that current diagnostic tools often only identify risks after complications have begun, a gap its early-detection approach aims to fill.

Founded in 2019, iPremom is now preparing for further regulatory approvals in the European Union and the United States to bring its MaiRa platform to market.
