Meta acquires AI agent startup Stilla after eight-month
Meta has acquired Swedish AI agent platform Stilla, founded by former Shopify executives, just eight months after its public launch.
Meta is acquiring Stilla, a Stockholm-based AI agent startup founded by former Shopify executives Siavash Ghorbani and Kaj Drobin. The deal, announced eight months after Stilla's public launch, will see the startup's team and technology integrated into Meta's AI division to strengthen its offerings for businesses.
Stilla's platform is designed for teams and organizations, building AI agents that can execute work across a company's various tools and workflows. Unlike AI that merely generates or summarizes information, Stilla's agents are built to act, focusing on shared organizational context, permissions, and enterprise-grade infrastructure. The company emerged from stealth in January 2026 with $5 million in pre-seed funding.
The startup's founding and funding
The pre-seed round was led by General Catalyst and included a notable list of angel investors from the tech industry. According to the company's announcement at the time, the funding was intended to develop its infrastructure, expand integrations with workplace software, and improve coordination between human teams and AI agents.
The "multiplayer AI" approach
Stilla's core technology is built on the concept of "multiplayer AI," where agents operate with the same organizational context as the human teams they support. The platform integrates with tools like Slack, Linear, GitHub, and Notion to maintain a current view of team projects, decisions, and progress. This approach positions its AI agents around team-wide workflows rather than individual tasks.
In its acquisition announcement, Stilla stated its existing platform will continue to operate as a service for current customers. The company said its team and technology will join Meta with the goal of applying its business-AI expertise to Meta's product suite.
Meta's strategic expansion
The acquisition aligns with Meta's broader push to integrate AI across its business and messaging products. A report from Axios suggests Stilla's technology and team are expected to contribute to developing the Meta Business Agent, a system designed to help commercial interactions through WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. Meta also plans to expand its presence in Sweden following the deal.
For the founders, the transaction represents a swift transition from an early-stage, venture-backed startup into a major tech corporation's AI organization. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
